Trends in Online Social Collaboration

Changing times call for changing trends.

It seems like every day there's some new Social Network coming up with new an cleaver ways to show us how to connect with the things, people and situations we love.

We are now able to connect with old classmates, share our music taste with our friends, find groups with similar interest and even find the love of our lives (or so we hope).

Well, brace yourselves because there's now a growing trend towards a even more collaborative culture. You are probably already familiar with craigslist and its hidden power to find anything / enyone / anywhere you are looking for.
Now this trend for finding matching good and services has exploded and can now be somewhat divided into different groups: exchange or services, exchange of goods,  rentals, ride sharing and even home sharing.
Up and coming startups like Zaarly and GigWalk (both available as apps) match you up with goods and services found in your area. Looking for someone to help you clean up your basement? Just enter your zip code and post your offer.
Have a more adventurous spirit and would like to travel the world? Then Couch Surfing is the new way to travel almost for free. You can even search for a ride with a car sharing website like Erideshare.

Got a college degree form a great university or an online school? Start a freelancing career in your area of expertise with sites like Guru and oDesk

There are so many ways to connect with people and find what we are looking for and the New Collaborative Networks are making a dent in history by bringing us all together.

When I Get Where I’m Getting to Where I’m Going… Get it?

Going off to college is expensive; that much is for sure, but money isn’t the thing that I fear most. The thing that scares me is quality. Going to a college where I know the quality of my education will prove essential to my aims and goals is nerve wrecking. Plus, I don’t know if I want to attend a university personally or shoot for an Online Bachelors Degree. Considering online educations are so new to most industries, another fear is how companies will recognize the quality of an online education on a resume.

However, the younger generation seems to greatly appreciate online educations; and this is very reassuring. I look up places such as Full Sail University and their online programs are plenty! And their alumni have gone off to work for big-time film companies, such as Dreamworks or Disney.

But then again, attending a University personally would be an extraordinary social experience. Making connections and networking with other aspiring professionals is equally essential to the quality of the education.

Though I’m still stuck on the fence on how I’m going to attend college, and where, I’m certain I’ll be alright no matter how I decide. Like anything in life, the college experience is riddled with pros and cons.

4 Tips to Fighting Stress the Sensible Way

Benjamin Franklin forgot one thing when he said that, “Nothing is certain but death and taxes.” He forgot to include stress.

Stress is something that affects us all. You can be the happiest man in the world, yet there’s still bound to be something, some situation or someone that triggers stress. Students are particularly susceptible to stress, what with the number of tasks they have to juggle on a daily basis. Aside from the backbreaking study loads you have to deal with, you also have to deal with other ‘side’ problems that cause just as much stress as schoolwork does.

With your focus on your future business careers, it can be very easy to become overwhelmed by everything that’s taking place around you. Fortunately, there are many ways for you to manage the stress brought about by school life. Stress management won’t come easy, but with practice and patience, you’ll find yourself able to detect stress and do something about it.

Here are 4 ways to do just that.

1.       Get Out and Walk Around

The simple act of going out and walking can be enough to relieve your stress in just a few minutes. Extricating yourself from the tasks, people and objects that are causing you stress also gets your mind off of your stress triggers. Walking on the other hand allows you to take a deep breath and clear your mind, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Sometimes, this little activity is all you need to make it through a day’s worth of schoolwork.

2.       Bring out your iPod

But don’t just listen to any type of music. Listen to tracks that are actually soothing and relaxing—no, heavy metal doesn’t count, unless of course you’re the type who somehow relaxes to it. Meditative music and sounds of nature are best. We personally recommend nature sounds, as it has the uncanny ability to make you one with nature. It may seem like hippie drivel but believe it or not, it has the power to relax your mind.

3.       Watch your Breath

When we’re stressed, we often react by holding our breath and making shallow breaths from our chest, instead of from the diaphragm. When you feel a stress attack coming, make it a habit to take a deep breath, purse your lips, and breathe out slowly.  Breathe from your diaphragm. You’ll know this by putting a hand on your tummy, right below the ribcage—if it moves, you’re doing it right. This simple practice can calm you down effectively.

4.       Hit the Gym

Well you don’t have to, since there are many ways to work on your fitness at home. Just make it a habit to get your fair share of exercise each week. Exercise gets your mind off of school and work, and it cures sleeping disorders such as insomnia, helping you rest better at night. Besides, your body and mind will thank you for the endorphin rush you get from your workout routine.

The Three Must-Watch Movies for the American History Buff

Though movies are often riddled with fictitious exaggerations, there is a lot to be learned from the movies. Regardless of the era, there are many recreations of the most influential times in history. Of course, subscribing to Netflix won’t get you your online masters degree but the information stored within some of the most popular films is invaluable.

1.)  The Patriot (2000)

“The Patriot” hosts vivid depictions of one of the greatest and most influential times in United States history. Scenes surrounding protests in Charlestown, the Battle of Waxhaws, and the Battle of Cowpens give a great feel of the Era. “The Patriot” even reflects the predated French and Indian War of 1754-1760. If you enjoy history (or if you have a die-hard crush on Heath Ledger!) , “The Patriot” is a great place to get your fill of American History.

     2.)  J. Edgar (2011)
As played by Leonardo DiCaprio, J. Edgar Hoover was a truly remarkable person. Constructing and evolving the Federal Bureau of Investigation was no easy task and “J. Edgar” brings to life the hardships of the socially clumsy founder of the FBI. In addition to the remarkable storyline, “J. Edgar” also touches on hot historical points in time, such as the assassination of the J.F.K., the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby, as well as the rise of Shirley Temple in cinema. A great performance by Leo DiCaprio, and direction by Clint Eastwood; “J. Edgar” is an absolute must-see for any History buff.

3.)  Forrest Gump (1994)

Tracing the steps of a man is difficult, but tracing the steps of a man who did not exist is proven harder. Though the story of Forrest Gump, as played by Tom Hanks, is a work of fiction, it takes place during some of the most controversial times of American history. From the Vietnam War to the rise of the Black Panthers, and all the way though the Watergate Scandal, “Forrest Gump” hits it all. Taking place in a time period of social progression, the story of Forrest Gump shows just how simple life can be in a time of turmoil.

Well, there you have it; The Top Three. Now don’t go expecting your online masters degree to arrive in the mail, but after watching these you’ll feel much more in tune with your American history.

5 Ways to Help Improve the Quality of a College Education.

Whether you are seeking a University degree or are simply interested in online courses, there are a couple things that you will need to know before you dive in. Attending school isn't easy, but there are 5 fundamental ways to make sure you don't make the process any harder than necessary.

1.) Have a plan! Making sure that you have your priorities straight is extremely important. Taking classes at one point in time just to find out that the courses you have taken aren't pertinent or don't transfer appropriately can be a huge buzz-kill. That's why it is important to have a good feel of the type of work you'd like to do. This way, if you decide to transfer or change degrees, you can feel secure knowing that the time you've already spent will be valuable to your future.

2.) Know your personality! Understanding yourself is a big part of the college experience. However, many people go to school searching for who they are. The fact of the matter is, your school will reflect your personality as opposed to your personality reflecting your school. If you have a good feel of the type of person you are you will blend better into the surroundings you've chosen. Even if you attend online courses, try and feel out the type of "cyber" environment you are entering into.

3.) Visit Campus! Whether you only have one college in mind or you've got twenty, visit the campus. Seeing and experiencing the grounds and facilities can heavily influence your decisions with not only where you want to attend, but also what you want to attend for. Even if you plan on transferring at a later date, visit every potential college in order to benefit your current college, and future career, planning.

4.) Get involved! Becoming an active member of your community will ensure that you have an enjoyable time. After all, college is one of the most memorable time periods of a person's life.

5.) Involve your family! Taking the step forward and entering college is a huge milestone in any person's life. It represent your separation from the life you've known; but that doesn't mean your family should be excluded from this wonderful experience! Involve your family. Invite your parents to an open-house or invite your older brothers to parties! No matter how you incorporate family life into your experience, make it happen. Remember: "Friends may come and go, but family is forever." Never forget your roots.

Eat Different.

Let's not go nuts: an apple a day is not likely to keep the doctor away.  But maybe the Welsh were onto something.

Raw apples are between 60 and 80 calories, depending on size. They'll give you at least 10% of your recommended daily fiber, and 10% of your Vitamin C.  Apples also regulate your blood sugar and have a low glycemic index.  Even if you aren't diabetic, apples won't give you the dreaded "food coma", a sensation students cannot afford to endure, particularly those enrolled in online colleges (who often have to endure long working hours followed by long studying hours).

Apples are, surprisingly, very filling fruits.  They digest slowly compared to other high-sugar fruits and can keep your brain running through a late lunch.

One of my favorite quick breakfasts requires just two ingredients: one medium apple and two tablespoons of peanut butter.  Slice up the apples and dip away.  Some companies also make "quick packs" of peanut butter in 2 tbsp portions, making this fast snack even faster.

Not into peanut butter?  I don't blame you.  Try a few slices of sharp cheddar.  I know, it sounds a little strange, but the tang of the cheese combines nicely with the subtle sweetness of the apple.

One small recommendation: steer clear of store bought apple sauce and apple juice.  They don't provide quite the same nutritional benefits, and they don't give you that feeling of fullness that a whole apple does.

"Fast" Food, Minus the Fat

One of the worst habits picked up in college is a poor diet.  This can be especially true for students enrolled in online colleges, where students can generally be short on time throughout the day to have a complete and healthy meal.

While you may not have an hour to prepare a hot dinner every single night, you can cobble together some reasonably healthy lunches and dinners using cheap, non-perishable items (or items with a very long shelf life).

That's right: I'm here to talk about beans.

Beans are sort of the black sheep of the food family.  Rarely are beans the main ingredient in a dish, but beans are incredibly healthy.  Beans are great for digestion (I'll avoid repeating the "musical fruit" rhyme), and can provide up to 30% of your recommended protein.

Here are two bean-y recipes that can be assembled in minutes, and with leftovers to last into the next day.  Every ingredient can be bought in bulk and would last for ages (except the tomatoes, which still have a decent shelf life for a vegetable...er...fruit).

Mediterranean Chickpeas:
- 1 can chickpeas, drained and washed
- 1/4 cup feta cheese
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 tsp dried basil or oregano
Combine all ingredients, makes two servings (store the 2nd in the fridge for tomorrow)

Mexican Bean Salad
- 1 can black beans, drained and washed
- 1 can sweet corn, drained
- 1 medium roma tomato, chopped
- 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
- Lime juice to taste
- Cilantro to taste
- Cumin to taste
Combine all ingredients, let sit for an hour in the fridge before serving; makes at least 3 servings.

3 Key Benefits in Enrolling in an Audio Production School

In the old days, a career in the music and entertainment industry meant only two things: you were either a dancer and singer (these two came hand in hand back then) or you were a musician.

If the rise of hiphop, modern rock, boybands and artists like Britney Spears and Justin Bieber isn’t enough to give you a clue of how much the music industry has changed, then perhaps the number of careers—which by the way, is growing each year—in the world of music will. In fact, almost anyone, regardless of age, gender and educational background, can develop a career in music today.

Enter Audio Production

One of the most popular professions for those not interested in the ‘flashy’ side of music lies in the realm of audio production. Audio production, in a nutshell, is the field of producing and editing audio files in digital format.

Due to the complexities of audio production, it only makes sense for entire courses to be devoted to its study. If you want to develop the skills to succeed in this industry, enrolling in a school or signing up for a course is the fastest and most convenient route to success. Below are the key benefits of going to school for this field.

1. Documentation

In today’s globally competitive world, having an education edge counts a lot in landing a job. Employers are now looking for people who have the right background that matches their organizational needs, something which audio production schools can provide.

2. Mentorship

Although some record producers have succeeded learning the craft on their own,—as is normally the case in the hiphop music industry—, it still pays to have the guidance from someone who is a professional in audio production.

3. Access to the Best Equipment

One of the main benefits of enrolling in an audio production school is the access you get to production equipment. Equipment doesn’t come cheap, and unless you have friends in the industry, it’s unlikely for you to be able to practice with your own equipment from the get-go.

The Bottom Line

Finding success in the music industry is a combination of luck, hard work and proper guidance. You can never go wrong going for audio production schools, and if you really stand out from your peers, you just may land scholarships for audio production and engineering.

3 Tips for Finding the Best Photography Classes

When you hear the word ‘class,’ you probably have the mental image of a classroom setting with a teacher droning on and on about the day’s lesson. When photography classes are concerned however, it’s anything but the long and draining hours spent in school.

Photography classes in general are interactive, fun and best of all, hands on. While it’s true that part of a photography course’s curriculum is still spent inside the classroom taking notes and learning from lectures, you’re likely to spend more time in the studio holding your camera, instead of a pen and paper. In any case, you’ll find that taking up photography classes yields many benefits for improving your craft.

The advent of digital cameras has definitely made this hobby more accessible than ever, which explains the number of schools and individuals offering their own photography classes to interested students. But the question is, how do you choose the right school or course? Below are tips that should help you.

Hands-on training is a Must

A worthwhile photography class must put an emphasis on intensive practical training. While lectures are also important, a theoretical approach to photography won’t get you far. That said, consider a class or school that places importance in hands-on work.

Know what you Need

Before you even think about signing up for a class or course, it’s imperative that you know what you’re getting yourself into. Ask yourself, “What type of photography classes do I need?” This is important, because if you’re a newbie, the last thing you want to do is sign up for an advanced class, when you don’t even know how to operate your camera. This is where common sense comes into play.

Consider the Online Route

If you don’t have the time to attend an actual class, you may want to consider signing up for an online photography course. With Internet classes, you can sit in the comfort of your own home and still enjoy the benefits of receiving instruction and wisdom from the pros.

Finding an online photography class shouldn’t be too difficult, as the best online schools are guaranteed to offer them.

Top Online colleges: the opportunity to learn flexibly

Traditional universities are facing challenges in terms of competition after the inception of the online colleges. Basically, the employed and household people who don’t have extra time to attend traditional classes for the improvement of their living, take courses from the online colleges. The courses are also helpful for the handicaps and the people suffering from social anxieties. But now a day the courses are available for all kinds of people. The flexibility and acceptance of the degree is increasing its demand among the regular students too. Don’t be astonished if you come to know that over 75% of US colleges offer online degree programs for their students from home and abroad. You may complete your advanced or professional degree from the top online colleges whenever you get time to sit in front of your computer. Just click your mouse and get your important class lectures, notes, videos, library to comfortably complete your courses. Actually, they are accessible anytime for the students. You need not think about the geographical distance of your college as you are enrolling in a web based degree program. You may complete your course when you have to balance your education and profession. Online college courses are cheaper than the traditional courses .The cost is easy to bear and can be paid through installments. Besides, they remove the hazards of attending class in time, sit on exam after a period, attending the class fighting with the bad weather, completing assignments in due time and so on. Online colleges offer a large numbers of specialized professional degrees and classes according to your demand.

But it is hard to find an online college that offers your desired course with a bearable fee. The recognition from the national education body as well as the acceptance of employers should be considered to find out the right one. You have to choose from the list of top online colleges  that is specialized in their respective field and is among the top online educational institution’s rank. College rankings are based on the surveys from the parents and the student’s satisfaction, job performance from the employers review, admission process, costs, and etc. Rankings may help you to classify the colleges but the rankings may not show the suitable one according to your demand and budget. You may use college navigator to search the courses that is suitable for you.

The admission and enrollment process comes next for consideration. The admission process varies college to college. Top online colleges offer students’ admission as per their available schedule for the courses. The admission criteria are lower than the traditional courses. An employee can enroll himself if after the employer’s notification which is demanded by the online colleges. Employers may contact with the colleges authority to enroll their employees for a course to develop the job performance.

5 Things to Remember in Starting Your Own Business

Many people get a career as a great employee. Some work as great minds for various companies. There are those who create some of the most fantastic business ideas for their bosses. And of course, a good number of people just serve the interest of the company owners in whatever industry they might belong to.

There are some who venture out and take the road less traveled -- they start up their own businesses. It is not that they do not enjoy their current work environment. It is not because they might be tired of the usual average salary of an administrative assistant or an office employee.  Their current jobs really pay well but there are those who just want to be their own bosses.

So if you want to start up your own business remember these 5 things:

1. Acquire First Hand Knowledge of the Business
It is important that every person who starts a business would have a good working know-how of the industry that they would want to get into.  It will be difficult for a person who wants to venture into the sportswear world without playing any sport or even buying any kind of sports gear and sportswear. You wouldn't know what to like and what to avoid. Experience really counts.

2. Getting Great People to Work With
As I usually say, "It is easy to produce a priceless product when you are working with jewels." This is so true. When you are working with people who are experts in their crafts it is easy to make a good idea work in the real world.  Although it is a painstaking process, every business owner must go through the very tedious process of selecting very qualified team players. But come to think of it, running the business becomes a whole lot easier when you've got talented people with skills rightly matching the job.

3. Take Counsel From Industry Veterans
A wise man once told me, "You will never get lost if you know how to ask questions", and he was SO RIGHT! I mean how would a person who is lost in his way get back to the right path if this individual does not how to ask for the correct road to tread?  Ask industry veterans for important information like their market, the system they used and problems encountered. This is not a show of weakness.  What you can do isn't the same as what they have been doing.  So do not think that they would look down on you for doing this. Maybe you have a solution for issues they have never resolved!

4. Create an Outline for Your Endeavors
You must have a good business model to follow backed up by a really good business plan. When you get into any business career even if it is your own, you must have a focused set of steps that you must take for your business to survive. We all want our plans to prosper but getting there requires specific activities including counter-measures just in case Plan A doesn't work the way you expected it.

5. Gear Up Your Finances
It pays to be ready in every possible way, specially with your finances.  When starting with your business be ready with initial expenses. This could be anything from start-up capital to contingency expenses. Everything you need to work with is something that needs to be bought. So get those bank accounts filled up.

These are just some of the practical and initial steps to take when you start your business. Follow that dream!

5 Great Reasons Why You Should Be A Teacher

Teaching is not just something you do when you feel like it. This is a special call to people with a passion to share knowledge and put that knowledge into good use. A lot of teachers leave their positions in at least 2 years or even 4. The reason is that they just came to do a job. No passion. No calling. Then, there are those who last almost a lifetime in this profession. They see the need to educate and give their lives selflessly for this cause.

Despite this, there is still a great need for more teachers. The good thing is a teaching career can now be available for a lot of people through various means. The need for quality teachers is continuously rising everywhere and every nation.

You get to enlighten the students in a way that you believe is best for them. Yes you have a syllabus to comply but you actually have authority on what happens in the room. Wow, this is like being the king of the office!

3. No Intrusion to Your Family Life
One great advantage of being a teacher is getting to have enough time for your family. There are always weekends of and this is just the right time for you to attend to personal stuff and enjoy quality time with your loved ones. This is fantastic and can work out really well for those with children.

4. A Natural Anti-Aging Therapy
No matter what kind of pressure teaching students would bring, there is a natural anti-aging therapy that goes with it. When you are with young people, you actually feel like you are also one of them. Or if not, you would still feel young getting into the vibe of the younger folks in the class. When you are with them, you feel like your age doesn't change as time flies by. It's just like getting younger as you get immersed into a younger crowd. Now that's a good thing, right?

5.  No Work On Summer
However you view it, a lot of people want their summer to be as free as possible. Some would want a part-time or short-term job. Others may want this time to maybe write a book. And there are those would want to travel and just enjoy the season. These are all possible when you are a teacher. Awesome, isn't it? You have the liberty of doing what you want in the summer without applying for a leave!

Well I hope these reasons are enough to convince you of entering a profession in the academe. Remember, when you teach, you can change the world!

This could either be anything from shopping for food, to taking medical consultations. It is no surprise that a lot of people are going for top online accredited colleges

But of course there are things we need to consider before getting into any paid service. We have to ask ourselves many times if these services are something worth it or if doing it the classic way would be better. So if you are a bit new or apprehensive about studying via the web, here are some advantages to this form of studying.
Take note of these Top 5 Reasons to Go For Online Studying:

1. The Variety of Available Degrees or Programs
There is a whole range of programs and degrees that can be taken on online schooling.  This will enable a lot of students to practically choose which program they are inclined to. There is now a continuous growth in the number of programs on the various schools such as human resource management, communications, and a whole lot more.
Various degrees are also offered including Masters and Doctorates. PhD and JD and even MBA courses are now openly available in top online universities.

Compared to studying within a campus, matriculation costs for online studying are a lot lower. Surprised?  Don't be. Providing education online has proven to be something that is also low-cost for the school itself. Thus, no need for off-the-roof and rocketing tuition fees.  Even the case of textbook expenses is also alleviated.  Getting the schooling online means getting the textbooks and other resources online, too.

3. Classroom Freedom
One of the things that brings discomfort to a lot of students is that boxed-in feeling you get when you spend hours and hours of your time stuck inside the four walls of a classroom. Ever get that feeling that you wish so much for the school bell to ring and run out of the door and head home or hang out with your friends outside? It's not just you! A lot of people feel so trapped when set in a classroom scenario. You had to deal with this from previous schooling from elementary to high school. Why not be free in college?

4. Studying and Working at the Same Time
A good advantage this can bring is that students can have the option of working while studying. Yes. You can be a working student. Earning a degree and earning money at the same time is not something new. But having the liberty of not rushing to work after class, or not rushing to class after work is a new comfort brought about by online studying! This is great specially for those who are already surviving a family.  Enough time for work, career and family!

5. Laxity in Assignment Schedules
Those studying online can always submit assignments whenever they are ready. There is freedom from strict schedules when taking online classes.  Although, all tasks must be finished by the end of the semester.  Even examinations may be taken at your own time. You may have your tests whenever you feel that you are ready. Although all tests and quizzes are announced a week early, students have the freedom when they would want to take it. This is a great option for those who are concentrating in various activities like work, family, or other undertakings.

Think and consider online learning. It's a great choice!

To Be or Not to Be: the Benefits of Living in College Dormitory

Am I going to live on my own this year? Do I really need a lot of freedom from my parents?  Is it really gonna be exciting or would I just end up broke with a gurgling stomach?  Well, these are the same questions that rammed into my head a few weeks before going to college.  I know I have to weigh the pros and cons but let me tell you that living in a dormitory could have the best benefits while you’re learning to live the real life.

It begins with your social life and trust me when I say you’ll get into a lot of activities both in and out of the school campus.  It’s tough enough to get into a circle but it’s tougher to get your own solid group.  Don’t get me wrong, but it’s like war out there where the fittest survive so be ready to find your way in events and parties.  Hey, college life is not just all about partying but it’s the gateway to establish relationships with important people and genuine friends.  I did and was proud of myself as I made wise decisions gaining friendship with a bunch of good guys.

Then you have to take your safety and security in consideration while you live on your own.  In general, living inside the campus with all the lights turned on every alley at night, is really safe.  You know it is because you are with the same college students within the walls, thanks to our 'front desk student ID checkers' who are strict with their entrance policy.  On top of that there are security guards all over the campus to check on suspicious activities and I don’t have to worry about my proximity to classes.  Just make sure you don’t break the curfew!

As you get a taste of adult life, the task is on you to be responsible for your well-being.  Hold your silly faces but I know at home you still ask Mom to do the laundry, but college dorm life means you have to keep your own room in seriously A-OK shape.  It’s funny how we learn strategies in life not through the books but with how we segue into the real world.  Our early childhood education never had a topic about living away from home.  Hey, that’s how I was forced to grow up.  I don’t have my parents to nag at me so I have to take charge of my own life.   What’s good about living inside the campus is that you have all the support you need for authority coaching from counselors and dormitory RAs. You know there are moments when you need parental emergency advice and they’re the best source away from home.

I’m not a nerd but I never had problems with homework, projects and report for I have easy access to valuable campus resources.  Especially when there’s a paper due in 3 hours, you can just run to the library near your dormitory and you’ll surely do your report even while half asleep. Oh that’s an overstatement, but at least you have the photo labs and workshops to use anytime.

Honestly, there are a lot of setbacks living a college dorm life because it could be overwhelming at times.  There is so much to study on top of the errands you have to do on your own.  Then you have to live with restrictions of course.  I don’t like rules but if it will make me a better person, which it did, then I abide by them.  And I have to live frugally and almost save a boat of money so that I can buy my needs and get ready after college too.

At the end of the day, you just simply have to choose between your comfort zone and the life out of the box.  It’s a difficult decision to make I know, and dorm life is not for everyone.  You are the only one who knows your personality and what you want.  Never let the stereotyped college experience dictate what you should do next.

Choosing the Best Online College

The traditional tuition providing system is being changed over time. Education system along with other popular systems like official and private communication or money transaction systems has been digitalized. Everything is taking an e-form gradually. It has been possible due to the revolutionary advancement in information technology in recent years. Internet is the key factor of this phenomenon.
With the advancement in information technology which has facilitated almost every action in our life, communication and sharing of knowledge have been aided most. Internet has created another world for people – a world of knowledge, entertainment, and social, official and private communication. This 20th-century application does not exclude the opportunity of receiving professional degree. There are a lot of online schools, colleges and universities what offer online degrees – accredited or non-accredited. Online degree programs are getting popular day by day because of some inevitable reasons. First of all, the time and place consideration. It requires less time with providing the superb opportunity of being at home at college time. Secondly, it is cost-effective in comparison with the cost of a degree from a brick and mortar college. But be careful when choosing an online college. Some online colleges have gained fame because of their excellence in providing education in a very systematic and skilled way. You can search for the best online colleges in Google. Visit their websites; you’ll find them ones you can count on.
Some traditional renowned brick and mortar colleges have set up affiliate programs that offer online degrees. These are, in most of the cases, good degree programs which facilitate accessing the e-library, chatting with professors, receiving lecture and career counseling. Also remember that the best online colleges have been accredited by recognized agencies. Visit the website of the Council for Higher Education to check whether your desired online college is approved by a regional accrediting body.
When you look for the online colleges’ academic program, seek for variety in all kinds of coursework, internship opportunity and lab facility. But the most important of all – seek for the course you want to pursue concentration in. The best online colleges will also require or offer real lab opportunities that supplement students’ e-learning and provide them the real-world experience.

I Do Something Fishy

As I went to get a glimpse of the new mall in town, I went to a new toy shop and bought my kids these sticky-glowing creatures which I know they would die for. Haha! Sounds like my kids love gooey things? They definitely do! I am proud that I can make my kids happy even with the cheapest toys around. Hey, it's the thought that counts!

While I was taking their pictures with their gooey little pals this afternoon, it actually dawned on me how we are exactly like those small creatures in real life. Like this pink fish here, I can't help but wonder how I personally would "fish for compliments." There are times when I would jokingly praise my work for everyone to hear as if to encourage them to see the beauty of my work.

I know it's not a good practice but I sometimes need it to keep my confidence on the run. Admit it or not, we all feel the need to fish for compliments one time or another in our lives so that all the negative emotions that scare us would go away.  I also admit that when someone tells me that my written story is particularly good, I feel the urge to do another and hopefully, better.

I'll say, I just wait for the right time for any person to ingest what I'm trying to get at until this person is hilariously obligated to build me up. Sounds like a plan? It sure will work with you. To receive any form of praise for doing something better is very rewarding indeed.  It’s something I learned from being an elementary school teacher.  You know when the kids would tell me they learned something new or that they understood the lesson easily because I injected fun in the lessons, it’s like next to getting an award.  Sounds exaggerated but true!

As a freelance writer, I will never stop to learn new things and strategies from my clients.  They suggest a few things that may not always be what I think is best but if it will show their personality then I make sure to include the information.

The same goes when I do things for my kids.  Well, it’s when I listen to their interests and things they tell me which they think are better that makes my work genuinely attractive.  This comes from personal experience and you may find it applicable to you too no matter what career choice you make.

Oh, no, I'm not getting away from being an online teacher my friends. This little-pink-gooey fish is not here for your eyes only but with a purpose. "Fish for compliment" is an idiomatic expression you may have heard of and try to use it this time.  Wait 'til you see how others see how good you are in speaking or writing.

I'm gonna play with my kids again now. You know, they’re my A-1 fans. ;)

Tap The Online Golden Ticket

Where there is a will, there is a way, and a golden degree at the end of the tunnel. But how do you tap this market that can only improve your career?

Search!

Search online schools. The benefits definitely outweigh the risks for this one, and online schools have so much to add to the educational market. Finding out your personal determined path is completely up to you, and what you want.

Why?

The diversity of students in the platform is amazingly high. This form of collaborative learning brings together ideas and thoughts of people that on a normal basis, you would have never met before. These ideas of a vast melting pot of students prevents cliques, or racial preference.

Time management is on your side here, too. The great thing about an online classroom is you attend when you want to, within reason. Many of the schools require a certain amount of participation, but it's at your time, your leisure.

But I have my kids...

An education is not earned by childless students. Nor is only for men, or women, or minorities. Kids can actually help with the online classes. For parents with teenagers, going back to Algebra was probably the last thing on your mind, but their classes can help the both of you to learn the exact same thing at the same time.

What exactly are you waiting for? An education is for everyone, even if you can't get to the college to have it. Participate and discuss with an advisor to see how it can work for you. The online classroom might be what you need to get through the rest of your life.

Assisting Where It Counts

What have you done lately? Are there things that you wish you could do to help out more? Have you ever thought of becoming a medical assistant?

The thought of helping people in need is very fulfilling. The job means you work one on one with patients, doctors, and nursing staff members. As you work to become an assistant, you will find that the reward is not in the degree, but in the healing you help to provide.

Scholarships are available to those who apply and qualify. You can locate many of these online, and they can reduce the amount needed to borrow from whatever sources you can find. Certifications and degree programs can be earned online using scholarships as well. Check with different online schools to see how you can earn your degree in your personal real time.

Still having problems deciding? Online schools and traditional universities have counselors that can help you decide on what is best for you. There are other places to search for a great school to attend to become a medical assistant.

Regardless of how you attend school, you can know that what you are doing is for the better. Each assistant is an individual, and as they work with doctors, they learn. Learning on the job while in school is equally as important, ensuring that you are doing what you need to so that you can become the best assistant possible.

Learn more on how you can help people while making it a career. A medical assistant may be what you need to be assisting where it counts the most.

Keeping Bias At Ease

Some of the most important things that administrators don't tell you for an online class is how to refrain from being biased. With the virtual classroom, it can easily be depicted that your words mean something that you had no intention.

In other words, body language doesn't count here.

There are plenty of reasons to take online courses. Time management, schedules, family, and transportation are simply a few. But once you get into the classes, how do you know who your teacher is? Or the classmates you are working with?

Here's a hint: names and spellings of those names mean nothing. A Caucasian female, age 25, with three kids can just as easily be named Hadasannah as she can be named Mary. The idea here is to not make judgment. Granted, there are some names and ideas behind the type of people are in your class.

Bias and racism is just as much of a problem in the online classroom as it is in person. Words hurt, and to those who know them and refrain from using them, good for you. But for others, saying words like white, black, Mexican... these are all politically incorrect. Just as is the words like old people, brats, or slang words that are supposed to depict a certain "type" of person. The words, no matter how they are used, are called bad netiquette, or etiquette on the net.

Another set of words that can be seen as mean, rude, or downright bad for "business" is slander towards the GLBT groups. A person's sexual preference has nothing to do with how they operate in classroom, just like if they are married or divorced has nothing to do with the way they learn. Everyone has the right to a fair education, no matter who they are.

So check yourself when you are making your posts online. For corrections or criminal justice classes, make sure that you are identifying persons in the proper terms, not some "black guy" or "Asian chick" or worse.

How Do You Actively Listen?

When you listen, you make a person feel important and appreciated.   If you listen to what people are saying, they feel respected and that their thoughts are valued.  Ordinary relationships emerge from effective communication.  We build relationships when we voice out our concerns effectively and listen well at the same time.

The same is true with couples.  Intimacy lingers when there is great communication.  In business, a lot of money and valuable time is saved when words are delivered with care and prevent any misunderstanding on both parties.  This is often taken for granted but it is actually in listening that we learn more than when we talk.

Remember the golden rule? It’s almost as definitely true in communication.  Listen to others how you would like others to listen to you.  The better we listen, the more we mature socially and emotionally.   You don’t have to be a psychology major to actively listen.  You can start this by following these simple steps to effectively and actively listen.   You may be doing some of the items mentioned here but subconsciously disregarding them with your very busy life.  It is best to not only consider what the other speaker is talking about but how he would feel if you show your concern and let him know you understand.

Face the person talking.  Your body language will tell if you are attentive.

Keep an eye contact.  Be sure that you do this with careful intent and not make the other person uncomfortable.

Take away external and internal distractions.  Turn off music or television.  Put down whatever you are reading and tell others to do the same.  If you have your own ideas or thoughts humming inside your head, let them all go. Give the limelight to the speaker and not you.

Respond.  You can nod or simply murmur a few ‘ah-huh’ and ‘ah-hums’ to show that you agree or understand what the speaker is trying to point out.  You can raise your eyebrow and mention a few words such as “Okay,” “I see,” or “Definitely.”  You can also ask follow-up questions such as “Then what happened?” or “What did you do next?”

Focus on what the other person is saying.  Do not think about what you are about to say next.  Your conversation will flow naturally after you’ve heard what the speaker is trying to point out.

Be open-minded.  Wait for the other person to finish the whole story before you jump into conclusion.

Wait for the speaker to seek for an advice.  Unless prompted with the question, never let the person know how you handled the same issue.  Let the person talk and soon this will lead to their own conclusion.

Listen to the complaint before you defend your side.  This will make the other person feel they have made their point and that you understood.  Sort your ideas and your decision regarding the matter while listening without interrupting.  You will find it easier to resolve any issues when you listen first.

As you listen intently there could be an awkward silence at times.  Do not panic.  Use the time to settle your ideas and then speak when you have organized your thoughts.  It seems odd to some but the more you listen, the better you communicate.  You may have listened to a person for 30 minutes and only said a few words in return, but you’ll find the issue is fixed and problem is resolved in a mutual way.
